Spatial Metaphors & Hidden Silk : Chronicle 45

I heard about this : when Bob Kennedy died his body has been put on a train and people watched it along the country. A photographer – Paul Fusco – made a book about this. Do your parents remember that?

I watched Monika, Bergman 1953. Harsh metaphor of what disillusions of the couple are. The efforts to follow this kind of film. I grew up and I like this, but I now prefer Fellini’s.

______

I watched “At Berkeley”, the documentary, with my daughter. Waow. I learned so many things! Things about America, about Universities, about teaching, about students. It’s been fascinating to hear these people talking “at this level”, being like in a classroom or within teachers talking budgets, but also disengagement from the country, or how to deal with resistance to change… Enthralling!

______

People who don’t realize that they use “space metaphors” because time is not really perceived. Time will come, time flies. And Tuesday “follows” Monday, right? Time as a LINE. Will Christmas come up on us, or do we come up on Christmas? You have a meeting saturday and you want to move it ahead, which day will it be? I found whole articles on that…

______

I have a real problem with a photographer, Bruce Gilden. You can Google it and hate it, but it’s not that simple. Instant rejection, OK? But why, where. What if I explore this, “though”.

______

The ultimate, in Japan, is not to keep up apparences but to take care of what other people can’t see, like having an ordinary kimono lined with a rare (and unoticable) silk. Oh I love this so much.

______

I Japan, people don’t say “I love you”, but “There is love when you’re here”.

______

The flag of Norway contains many other flags.

______

One Russian author explains that vodka is a medicine “which is not really ready”.

______

Things are not what you think they are.

______

Allez, a little clip from my young years. Try to read what people tell on YouTube. 1977. I was ten. Exactly in this mood.

______

Monika, the movie, is well known because the character, betraying his partner, suddenly watches the camera (therefore us). It’s a shock (no character is allowed to watch the audience, right?). She takes us on. She makes us a witness, shows that she knows we know, and seems to eye-say : “So what?”.

______

With climate change, they say that south of France will be more flooded, and north of France will discover tornadoes, like in Kansas…

Have a nice day!
