Nipplet Cork Pacifier Drama

In French, we call a nipple “un téton”. And a pacifier is called “une tétine”.

Therefore, you can imagine that we almost say “a nipplet” instead of “a pacifier”. Une tétine.

Makes sense, oui?

I have two daughters, they are 16 and 19, and they never had a “pacifier”.

The reason is : I am sure a pacifier is useless, and vulgar, even harmful.

A pacifier is a cork. Baby’s crying, cork him! Shut him off!

And more : A pacifier, for a baby, is an external solution. Therefore this future human being will never find a way to cope – out of a “thing”.

Later, as an adult, it’ll stay the same. Something else – or someone else – will be the fix. He’ll need a cigarette, or a bigger car, or to buy things, to try to get better. Or eating. Or pills.

A cigarette is a pacifier. Bulimia is a pacifier. Etc.

I stop here. All this cork thing is overboring. Almost as boring as paying someone to drill your nose to put a ring into it – and then you do look like a cow. Feel better now you have one? Happy? Corked?

Sucking to feel safe, it is insane. It’s deep inner drama. It creates a disastrous brain : “I need something to calm down”. Drama, problems, money, intoxications. No pacifier, it’s better. They’ll survive… You’ll survive, and find solutions from the inside of you. Knowledge.

And realizing this : there is no “solution”, eventually.

This is wisdom!

Dial : You had one as a kid? Thus now what is your pacifier made of?

#Montessori misinterpretation mess

Nooo it’s not an article against Montessori education, which is great!

Here’s the core of it, copy/pasted from Wikipedia :

Montessori education is fundamentally a model of human development, and an educational approach based on that model. The model has two basic principles. First, children and developing adults engage in psychological self-construction by means of interaction with their environments. Second, children, especially under the age of six, have an innate path of psychological development. Based on her observations, Montessori believed that children who are at liberty to choose and act freely within an environment prepared according to her model would act spontaneously for optimal development.

It’s a very interesting approach, and one of the key word of it is AUTONOMY. Many parents interested by Montessori buy books to understand and use it at home, but some of them just heard about it, or read an half-page article, and they just clicked on two concepts they adoooore :

  • My child (who is already “ahead of others”, of course) will be even better.
  • My child will be more autonomous, and… I will have peace.

This second point is the problem here. Autonomy is very important in this education, but not in the way “he is happy alone and I will have peace to do something else”!

It’s more : freedom to choose and activity and the rhythm, self-discipline (“I notice my mistakes”), experimenting, etc. There are… books about that!

Thanks for reading!

Questions to a teacher… #teaching

Oh these questions, I have to write them.

How do you do ?

How do you juggle with two principals ? Do you have work at home ? Do you mainly teach teachers, or kids ? How do you do, for each ? Do you teach classes of teachers ? Who resists ? Who doesn’t ? How do you convince them ? Do some teachers watch you teach, sometimes ? Are some teachers, who love your work, able to convince others of “she’s so right on this !” ? Are you paid enough ? How do you report to your boss ? Emails ? Face to face ? Does she watch you teaching ? Do you teach kids one by one, or in classes ? Is your “pack” of children fixed, or does it change along the year ? Why ? What are your main difficulties ? What is easy ? What surprises you ? Do you meet parents ? Why ? Do you report teachers about kids progresses ? Do you put some kids “out” of your program ? Are some kids reported ? How do you works with speech pathologists ? Psychologists ? Do some ESL have other problems (like gifted ESL) ? How do you stay connected to the law ? Are some kids very difficult ? Did you have to call the police ? To change kids from a teacher to another ? What about comparing with previous years ? How do you get new ideas ? Do you use computer programs ? Do you show movies to kids ? Do you read about our job ? Do you get good advices from experimented colleagues ? Do you have enemies ? Why ? Do some people admire you ? Do some parents ask for an appointment with you ? Why ? What are the language kids come from ? Spanish, French, Russian ? How about the other special aid teachers ? Do you collaborate ? How ? How is the link between the grades ? Are there new teachers ? Did some people get fired ? Will you like it for years ? Can you climb the hierarchy ? Who helped you the most ? Do you have a rat pack ? Great moments ? Do you use music ? What about your thesis ? Do you have ideas for a book ? About what ? Do you like all this ? What do you miss ?

Recess Time : “I don’t talk to you anymore everrrrr”

It’s recess time. Kids are running screaming everywhere. And there’s an argument, under a tree : “You betrayed me I don’t trust you anymore ever I will tell it to my mum you are very mean and I won’t talk to you anymore everrrr”. Drama.

Imagine now some more adults word in the kids mouths now : “OK, we have a problem, friend. You broke my trust, do you realize that ? Let’s talk : how do we get out of this problem? Why did you do that? What happened in your mind, silly? Is it because I didn’t want you to talk to me anymore?”.

Then, you could see the two kids talking quietly while they walk…

I heard many times about whole families on Facebook fighting about parenting or politics or a wrong picture posted on a wall. Everybody is bitter and block everyone. I heard many times about someone who decides to “I don’t talk to you anymore ever” to his own parents. Each time I’m like : Maybe you could try a letter a year? Maybe just to check if it’s not a misunderstanding? Maybe to check if the angriness has vanished into memories? Evolving towards the light? A letter to forgive, or ask for forgiveness? Oh there’s a good word, here : Diplomacy.

Lever :

In case of problem, wrong moves and misunderstanding, do you chopblock people, or do you, on the contrary, increase the level of dialog and try to understand, grow up, and climb a few stair-steps together ? Are you a shark (attack), a carp (fear), or a dolphin (elegance)?

Tool :

Do you need an enemy to regroup and feel safe? Maybe you do.

Heyyy! This is another article!

How to go back to quiet silent daydreaming summers ?

When I was a teenager, let’s say in 1981, there were 3 channels on French TV (TF1, Antenne 2 et France 3). Music was on some LPs, and there was no Internet, no Pokemon Go, no cellphone. Some rare rich fathers had an Apple II. The Sinclair ZX-81 was just showing its nose…

Useless to say that when you got something “interesting” into your hands, it was amazing.

I remember that summer ! I was 15, and I got this Casio Programmable Calculator FX-702P, and I asked my parents to order a few L’Ordinateur de Poche, a magazine about these new “Pocket Computers”.

I read them, re-read them, tried every Basic program, and spent weeks trying to program a standard Battleship – not the game, just a way to “place the boats” (one the size of 4 squares, two 3 squares, three 2 squares and four 1 square – the submarines !). The memory of my Casio was too small so I had think about a way to optimize it (interlacing 2 loops, etc).

This summer I borrowed some LPs. The Blue Beatles sampler, with the lyrics, kept me busy for weeks.

I remember me as a kid watching clouds for hours in summers. La rêverie is a pretty good French word for daydreaming (we could say “dreamery”, right ?). Getting bored, at this time, at this age, was triggering imagination instead of Netflix…

Slumber or Torpor ? I think I didn’t find the good english word to translate our “torpeur”. When the sun is brûlant, days are long and quiet, tout est calme et you don’t have any mission or money to make/win. You watch clouds and just try to be happy. You play frisbee, you watch ants, you bike with friends. Les merveilleux nuages…

Lever : You really can find back this state. You just have to cut THREE things : TV, Smartphone, and Internet. Nothing much after all…

Then you will have to search in the old “real” world (books, things in attics, CDs and LPs). This provides a bouquet of another things : a slower focused brain rhythm, a hunger, a desire to create maybe, some imagination, some creativity.

It can also trigger a big boredom too. Well… C’est la vie !

Bifaceted Mary Poppins

#together #silver #metal #couple #braderieddelille2015
#together #silver #metal #couple #braderieddelille2015

OK I’m french. My english is a frenglish, it’s rusty and wobbly, et voilà. Try me, though. I’ll do my best. I promise. If sometimes it’s too bad, just laugh at me or roll your eyes.

Each time I try to understand Mary Poppins, I take my magnifying glass (ma loupe, quoi !) and I see a bunch of paradoxes.

She comes as a nanny, but she saves “Mr. Banks” (the father, of course – it’s funny, in fact, to watch the other movie, you knowwww, Saving Mr. Banks, after Mary Poppins). Her mission is hidden, never really told. Father lost in job, cut from children, relinked : check.

Mary will “save” the father, but the mother, she won’t. The mom’s too busy for that. This situation is a complete unresolved knot : This mom is on a good way on a woman path (suffragette, remember ?) but she seems an innocent forgetful funny mother who does not care that much…

Mary is magic, but she likes organisation : cleaning the room is the first thing to do, and she’s the last to laugh at the ceiling in the tea scene, after many “You shouldn’t”. Is she a Virgo ? Look at the way she’s dressed : poor, but strict. Tight, almost. But magic, graceful, of course. And a smile…

Her employer is Mr Banks, but she has her own way to “listen to orders and do her own way” (letting the poor Banks in perplexity).

It’s a movie, but there are animated parts. Dick van Dyke is Bert, Mary’s friend, but also Mr. Dawes Sr, the old director of the Bank.

Spit, but spot, too : Spit-Spot !

This character is an Archetype. The Intruder coming from outside, and revealer of things, trigger of changes. Is she an Intercessor ? An Angel ?

Levers :

Find your own levers, come on ! Archetypes are seeds. Think : revealer, bifacets, hidden missions, wrong ways up, intruders, reconnections and paradoxes…

After all, maybe you need to be saved, too ?

Think about how lucky you are, the day you find your Mary…
