The Disillusion of Level 2

In my life I met many times the Disillusion of Level 2. You just have to listen to people’s stories.

We all know this process, especially when we are young :

  1. You desire something strongly (a job, a love, a change, a project)
  2. You act to achieve this goal
  3. You fail, you are disillusioned, disenchanted, disappointed
  4. You rethink, invent new goals, with more confidence, you do the contrary, you take another path which, at least, will be the good one!
  5. You act to achieve this goal
  6. You fail, you are disillusioned, disenchanted, disappointed

Yes, it’s like a loop!

This triggers a few questions :

  • Do we always expect too much all the time?
  • Isn’t “expecting disillusion” a way to be lazy?
  • Is there a way of drawing a “good map”?
  • What do you do when you see a friend about to be on this path?
  • Where is the Level 3?
  • What’s the knowledge we gain after these?
  • Is it about daring more? Being more casual? Expect nothing?
  • Or is it about stopping?
  • What is the “need of change”?
  • Who is wise, and why?

Now apply that to any concept of life you know : love, job, hobby, politics, arts, goals, etc. What do you find? What are the stories you know? What do you think?

Merci ! Bonne journée !

Attack of the giggles at a funeral : End of Solemn

C’est son chapeau!

Yeaaah we’ve all been there, right? You’re in church, at a funeral. You noticed a really ridiculous hat on some old aunt’s head, then you eye-contact with your sister who saw that you saw. You’re done : you get the giggles (is this the correct way to say it?), you can not stop laughing. Go outside and burst, you silly both!

Beware, because it could happen to you in an important meeting!

Attack of the giggles has a purpose : it’s an urgent need to end solemnity.

It’s a dial, and the giggleneedle touches a red slice of it, you’re done. Dring!

It’s a tool :

You are maybe also a ridicule feathered hat owner, you know? Who could be giggling out about what you do, and why? Where are you arrogant, intensely solemn or ridiculous? Examine your so strong recent decisions… Mmhhh?

Why do you blog? The mess of #motivation theories – #blogging

Ah that good question it is, “Why do you blog?”. You can pick another one if you want : Why to you run? Why do you paint? Why do you shop? Why do you have sex?

I use it as a pretext to write about Motivation Theories, which are a whole messy basket of attempts to explain why I do something.

Why do you blog? Well, it depends…

  • You want to grow, to accomplish something
  • You want new competences
  • You want to meet people, affiliation
  • You need to express yourself
  • You believe in it
  • You need more self-esteem
  • You want money, or a job
  • You want power, you want to influence people
  • You want to be rewarded, posititive feedbacks, recognition
  • You want to impress someone, or a group
  • You want to be heard, you want readers, followers
  • You think it’s a way to gain something else, to enter something
  • It’s interesting
  • You fear something, like punishment
  • You need a goal, a discipline, a frame, to push yourself
  • You are pulled, or triggered by something, orders for example
  • You need schedules, to be driven by something
  • You need to be busy, tasks
  • You need to forget something else
  • You want to reduce something
  • Expectancy
  • You want to meet your future husband or your wife
  • Motivation needs to become words and expression
  • You want or need to explain yourself
  • You search something and you find it little by little
  • You need to be productive, to produce something, to have results
  • You like numbers, statistics, you count visitors, likes, followers
  • You’re drunk

If you want to find more, Google “Motivation“, that’s really funny to dig. At the end, I found one day a single way to express this mess (your reason you blog is a melting cheese of reasons, right?) that could be the ultimate height of social motivation :

You blog, because you want to be loved

Break Ups & Taking Things into Consideration

This winter I’ve been invited for lunch by a couple, I spent a delicious day talking with them and other friends, and the lady of the house lent me a CD of the music composed by… her ex-husband.

I was amazed by that, because divorced people have a nasty tendency to hate everything linked to their ex-lover – they love solemn dramas, probably.

If your love has a talent (for photography, poetry, writing, composing, lecturing or singing), why the hell this person would become a Dumb Zero once the love story is over??? Mmhh?

“Taking things into consideration” is a simple good tool (we say “Faire la part des choses” in French, “to make portions of things” which makes sense, I think) :

Take the pie, cut the love off : the person stays the same! Magic!

“Listen to this CD, tell me if you like it!”, with a big smile : her ex was good in this area. And well, he stayed a good composer…

Or… if you said to your crush he/she’s a good photographer, and you really don’t think he/she is, it means that… oh no, no no no no no no : that’s impossible, right?

From cook to music, and vice versa

Imagine a cook listening to music. Classical? Jazz? Pop? Rock? He closes his eyes. His brain dances and connects the sounds to his skills, and he gets ideas. Cooking. Baking. He stands up. He smiles. Here it is. Voilà!

As he found the idea pleasant, here he is, the day after, inventing recipes. With a purpose. He wants a friend, a musician, to taste it… to gain ideas. What will grow from this?

OK. Other combinations? From painting to cooking. It’s a game : Displacing Concepts

Tool : How will you get new ideas? How will you offer new ideas?

Don’t think about the color “Blue” for a minute…

ONE

Let’s imagine I dislike George Michael. I hate his music. So here I am building a web page about that : “I hate GM !”. I write daily articles about everything I hate, his nose, his voice, his life, etc.

Until I realize I hate George Michael and I’m thinking about him all day long. I harvest things for my blog. I hunt. I spit words. I am obsessed by someone I don’t want to think about. Smart !

TWO

Don’t think about the color “Blue” for a minute…

Mmmhhh ?…

THREE

As I’m constantly reading slices of books, I one day read something in my sofa, from Nietzsche, and two hours later, in triangles of sun (see picture below), from André Suares (I will find the quotes soon and put it there). Both were talking about people banning sex from their life. They were both noticing that when you do that, you have like a black hole in the center of your brain, thinking about sex constantly.

Work for a Temperance Movement, become an activist : you will be in a position where you talk about… alcohol and sex constantly !

Tool :

If you hate George, just don’t pay attention to him. Breathe. If you want to think about the color blue, think of it, it’s not that dramatic. If you want to have a drink, just relax and have a glass of wine. If you need peace, don’t build a block castle : listen to some Royksopp and dance with what’s around. Dialog. Or not. Solemn drama or dolphin casualness ?

I suggest Coming Home.

The Flight Excites the Hunter

“Let’s pretend” and other as if games

Kids made a hut in the garden. They joyfully scream stories like “Now we’re pirates ! We’re on a boat yeyy ! Oh, look : a whale is coming !”. Then it’s a castle in the desert, a cow-boy fort, etc.

When we become adults, we love and we have to play that game, differently. Instead of pretending to be pirates, managers gabbledygook empty glorious words to a groupe of inner-sarcastic employees. Instead of yelling in the garden, two friends rejoining after a long time fight and misunderstanding suddenly hug and cry together, forgetting their ruins, sobbing projects about strength and sparkling cleanliness. Friends again and forever ! And just spend five minutes in a political meeting, just to taste this energy…

As if, pretending, call it what you want. We all do that, and when we speak this way, we’re like kids : “Yeah, we are strong !”, “Yeah, we will beat them all”, “Yeah, it will be simple and beautiful !”, “Our company is the best !”. Hip hip hip hourra. Do you feel the heat in your heart, when you’re on that path ?

Tool :

Uplifting ! That’s a good english word I learned recently. We all need it from time to time, after a crisis. Suddenly it makes things simple, or more likely d-o-a-b-l-e. Of course it’s not simple, nor even doable, probably, but we have to overshadow this. Let’s pretend we’re strong and OK and that we are on the good path ! Reality sweeping under the carpet…

The secret subtility behind this is : How much we all screaming kids BELIEVE in this shit ? Reason, we all know in the deep, is there in parenthesis. “Dinner is served, kids !”, we all fail, and snap, there’s no castle in the desert, it’s just our f… garden.

Why do I think of Goya, at this time ?

“Dreams of reason produce monsters”
