The quality of time has been modified

The quality of time has been modified

Like a sudden change in the light

Look around you, now

The present is full of shades

The past resuscitates  – or goes very far

The future is now impossible to measure

When does this happen? Sudden proximity of death? Pregnancy? War? Love? A splendid new idea, a project?

What is lost? Why? Can you do as if nothing happened? Will you live differently? What does it trigger? What is possible? What do you want : use this new light? Find back the old one?

Teeth & Tidal Waves : Dangerous Dreams

Jünger wrote somewhere that some dreams are so intense that they seem to warn you : “Pay attention, please”.

Two dreams are dangerous : when you loose your teeth, and tsunamis. Death and danger.

But when you dream about someone’s death, everybody seems to agree it’s not about death but about CHANGE (you will change, you have to change, you need to change, whatever).

If you dream this person died, some people say your relationship with this person has to change, but I disagree. I think that our brain works about us only, therefore that our dreams use the traits this other person personifie to show a need of change for yourself.

Well, we could go on like that for pages. I’d like to add this :

Palm of Ordinary Seeds & Masters Wrong : Chronicle 8

Within my reach !
I could have touched !
I might have chanced that way !
Emily Dickinson

For some of us, who have inside a sort of “rush”, a surge, an inner run-up force, there are many ways. You can Huckleberry Finn along a river, you can also Kerouac all along the road, you can choose a passion (collecting – forks or shipwreck books -, throw yourself into sports, politics, veganism or religion, anything that can keep you busy). If you have young kids, you don’t have to worry : these little brats will keep you busy. You can disappear, too, into alcoholism or antidepressants, or sleep. Shopping, why not, if you’re moneyfilled.

My daughter was in England all past week in Plymouth, including the day people were killed and stabbed in London. You will see plenty of pictures of people in Europa saying “We Are Not Afraid”, and, like Londonians during the V1 V2 Nazi bombing during WWII, we are NOT afraid. I told my daughters to live, to shop, go to theaters and restaurants and have fun with friends. That’s our way to resist : to stay ourselves against idiots.

And yes : spot the emergency exits, everywhere they go.

When you advise a friend to read a book, to watch a movie, and she or he asks why, you answer : “You will know once you’re on it”. With a certain smile, right?

When a window is closed, another can open. What kind? What is different? What if it was the last window, closed for ever?

After a big disappointment, what’s left ? Pieces : misanthropy, auto-torture about ideals and dreams, and Art as a shelter.

images 2.jpg

What do we do (or think we can do) against an formidable enemy, a wrong energy? What if you can’t resist because it would be stupidly useless? Seeds for an article :

  • Don Quichotte’s mills
  • A drop in the water
  • An attempt for appel d’air
  • Dessiller (open sb’s eyes)
  • Draw maps (for later)
  • Barometer (to warn)
  • Warn, alert
  • Guerilla
  • Witness
  • Grains of sand (in the clock)
  • Breaches & holes drilling

Map of Variations :

To draw a map is very common. You can use it anytime, on anything. Territory, music, history, love. Then it’s not “really” a map, but a set of informations about something complex, a table, a chart.

Choose a song and list elements : lyrics, instruments, production, place of instruments in the sound, construction. There’s one “another nature” map, though : It’s how all these change and evolve in time.

Seed/Tool : in every chart you find or work on, think about the MoV.

Feedbacking a patient can have a great effect, I read once. It’s probably the same for teachers, parents… It means : stopping being “The One Who Knows”, ride down next to your patient/student, and talk man-to-man about YOU. This can have a tremendous good effect. Your advice, on this?

This is a seed for short stories : “When imminent danger is a godsend”. Why, where, how, etc. Your turn!

Embarrassment when you see a Master out of his domain. Nietzsche’s music? Schoenberg’s paintings? Or someone you know? A great cook trying to fix his car? A genius computer programmer parenting? And so what?

Sapiosexual breakups are the worse. Because instead of missing an inventing sex life, magic tenderness and a silky skin, you miss a thinking brain, a conversation master, a challenging thinker, you miss questions, surprises, bends and laughs. AND magic tenderness, okay. That’s worse, eventually.

13876891_ori.jpg

Eventually is a very tricky word for us French. I know it means “after some time”, or even “finally”. But in French, “éventuellement” means “possibly”, or “potentially”. Well, even now I have to check. Each time I use it. My brain doesn’t not want it. I always want to call Obama on the phone to explain him there’s a mistake.

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

3 Novels about Waiting for the Enemy

Dino Buzzati The Tartar Steppe (Italy 1940)

Julien Gracq The Opposing Shore (France 1951)

Ernst Jünger On the Marble Cliffs (Germany 1939)

I won’t do it here in my little blog, but if you dare, it’s a great thing to study. Each novel shows people (in a fortress for the two first), waiting for an enemy, and invisible and frightening danger. Each novel is great! This is a triple door to many questions :

  • What does the author want to say? Is it about life (we fear things, we wait for something)?, politics (Jünger about the nazis?)? You just read and find your interpretation. And it’s maybe not what you think!
  • What can we do against a rising peril? Flee? Resist? Wait? Be impassible? What else?
  • What if this danger was not real, invented (by who? You? Someone else? What for?)? Maybe that “attack” will never occur? Maybe it will happen JUST because you triggered it with your army? What about “You get what you expect”?
  • Where and why should you invent an enemy? To regroup? To get stronger? To keep yourself busy?

Have fun! Thanks for reading!

Some places WATCH you. Have you been there?

One day I was in Britain, en Bretagne, which is the West of France. I was in the countryside, I had my camera in had, and I was chasing dragonflies…

It was really full summer. Quiet blue sky. Really, a pleasant promenade, a pleasant walk.

(I think you don’t have a word in America for our French “promenade”. Let’s say it’s “to have a walk”, with more Frenchiness I suppose : you walk, you wander, you just walk slowly with no goal, no purpose, you smell the air, “le nez au vent”, the nose in the wind, as we say, voilà).

So. I quit the path and I went on the right, near a little wood. Some quiet water was walking along the wood’s border. I did too. Fireflies hunt just above the water, as you know.

(we have two beautiful words to say “the border” of a forest : “l’orée” is colored by “the entrance” idea, and “la lisière”, which sounds, for us, like “the line which is the border of the woods”).

French has more words about certains things, but I realised a long time ago how rich English can be too!…

Suddenly I stopped in the sun. I felt it.

Something is watching me.

A coomb. A little clairière (a clearing). I felt danger. I was amazed by the quality of the threat. I ran away, quickly.

Some places are watching you. Are they haunted? Is there something coming from you? Is it the light, a sudden silence, a mystery, a ghost?

Sometimes (for examples after a dream), your guts are speaking. You just have to listen. It’s a matter of life or death!

Riding the Tiger’s Back… and fall

This comes from a Chinese idiom : “Riding on the back of a tiger and finding it hard to get off” : someone is stuck in a difficult position and has no way out.

Once you start riding the tiger you can’t voluntarily get off or you will be eaten ! Let’s find it fascinating for many reasons…

  • It’s a tiger, dangerous and maybe powerful. So you can choose to STAY on the back of the tiger, and try to master it, or tame it (well, you can try…). You’ll fail, though, almost evidently.
  •  You probably chose to ride the tiger : why ? Are you crazy ? In despair ?
  •  There are colors on this picture : sarcasm probably, including auto-sarcasm (“haha, you’re stuck, you idiot”), fear, resignation, fatality !
  • Illusion of power, with the secret inconscient knowledge that it’s a fake power or a dangerous one.
  •  It’s maybe a story of destruction : choosing to climb the back of the tiger creates a situation which will force you to change something.
  •  Jump and be eaten OR Kill the tiger yourself OR “use it” until someone understands…
  •  When someone understands that you’re stuck, he can kill the tiger, or you, or both.
  •  When the tiger’s dead, this person will cuddle you in love and will forgive you for having invented this stupid tiger. “Why did you do that, silly !?”
  • Or not. So there.

This is linked to the concept of the Wrong Way Up – of course : it is often a wrong and dangerous solution to climb on the back of the tiger. But sometimes of course you have no choice (which, from the inside of you, is called nihilism).

If you have examples, write to me : jeanpascal@wanadoo.fr – love ? job ? military ?

Tool/Lever/Dial : Play with dynamite, smart little man, invent a tiger situation and climb on the back of it – you probably have to. Don’t lament you’re dead and eaten, as a consequence. Wrong way up is wrong. The idioms says : there’s no way back. Don’t expect forgiveness.

A Bomb in a Drawer

I have a little story for you.

Today, in a big company, ten minutes before an important meeting, someone enters a room and tells Miss Rhino that Mister Giraffe will probably “tell something” in this meeting. Tell something wrong. Or dangerous. Or inappropriate.

Is Miss Rhino terrified by this threatening information ? Nope.

She opens a drawer, takes a folder, picks a paper sheet. Then she goes in Mister Giraffe’s office, and silently shows him the paper sheet. When she’s sure he did read the paper, she goes back to her place. Done. Meeting time now !

Intimidation, deterrence, dissuasion, I don’t know how you say that in english. I prefer call it “a bomb in a drawer”. Une bombe dans un tiroir.

Miss Rhino has probably a bomb for every dangerous colleague in the company. But she never uses them. Her enemies should sometimes know that she COULD.

Tool : Do you need a bomb for some people ? When should you show it ? Much before danger (no), or just in case, seconds before assault ? And what if you must use one for real, one day ? To warn others ? OK, let’s call this “Instant Dissuasion”.
