“Filled Flat Storage Space”, a story to write

I had a dream, it could be a beginning.

I’m a woman in a yellow room of an hospital or asylum. I’m locked with two other women with no importance.

A visitor comes, a woman too, who brings me a couple devices : strange spectacles with a blocked (but removable) eye, a blazing metallic spiral. I’m very interested in those.

These are things she brought me to “make me think”. As if I was desperately hungry of “things to think about”.

She was also talking to me in a mysterious and smiling way, giving me ideas to munch, as gifts.

Then I had the sight of a row of notebooks, on a shelf.

In a way, thanks to this friend from the outside world, I get ideas, I munch’em, and transform them into words.

What do we do with this? A strategy to escape the asylum? Or like in Silence of the Lambs, does the friend use me to investigate on complex things? What happens when one day she doesn’t come anymore? What are these devices? Who were these persons before the locking up?

Thanks for reading! Have fun!

When you don’t get signs anymore…

We all read about signs. Coincidences. Synchronicity. You get helped when you need it. You meet the good persons, etc.

You can also read : Coincidences? Are you serious?

But… what does it mean when you do get signs anymore?? You can go move through your life without being on the look out, or you can search them like crazy : nopething.

A few hypothesis :

  • I get signs, but I don’t “get” them
  • I don’t understand
  • I forgot how to “read” them
  • No more signs… is a sign
  • I have to manage by myself
  • The one who sent me signs is dead
  • The one who sent me signs lets me rest, gives me a break
  • The one who sent me signs wants me to reconnect with reality without looking out for them
  • I have to pass a milestone before receiving more
  • I finished my quota. No more signs in stock. F.
  • I disappointed my signs sender
  • I miss an ingredient to get them. Meeting people? Traveling? Creating?
  • An activity which opens a canal
  • I need to switch on my inner antennas, to make energy circulate
  • I am at the point I don’t need signs anymore, therefore I suppose I’m ready and I have to act immediately – but I have no clue what to do, dobidou
  • All this crybaby “signs” thing is bouleshit, you’d better understand by yourself if you’re on the right path or not. Have a glass of wine. Cheers!

What would you add? What happens?

Have a nice day! Thanks for reading!

Chipping off prone varnish of Civilization

This night I dreamed of a street. It looked like a Japanese suburb. In a quiet evening, I was with my family outside, behind the house. Kids were playing in the garden, though night had fallen already.

Then something happened, far in the city. We heard screams in the distance. Then some people, more and more people began to pass in front of the house. I was watching them from my porch. They were worried, like fleeing something.

I stood up, listening to the night, on the look out for clues. I heard more screams, more people, like a river. I heard someone saying : “People are really fighting over there, phewww!”.

I grabbed the kids, my wife : “Hop hop! Everyone inside!”. Then… I woke up, in a grey mood, with this word in my head : “Varnish“.

Civilization as a “varnish over something” is a classic metaphor. Depends on what you think about : over opaque nature, over barbarism of men, over… absurdity?

Fragile varnish, chipping off prone.

Well, cities can burn, wars and earthquakes – or revolutions – can fracture the skeleton of social structures enough to push entire counties to different strange Middle Ages.

It’s probably why many humans are fascinated by “after the bomb” or epidemic (or zombie) movies, when one or a little group of humans has to gather to protect themselves against… something.

As a bookseller I see that many people buy books about survivalism. How do you do when there’s no electricity anymore?

Social collapse can also lead to other things.

When the Russians arrived in Berlin in 1945, it was about another kind of survivalism. German people (mostly women, kids and old people) had to find food, water… and find hideouts not to be raped… For months.

Isn’t our health a similar varnish? We move forward, full of trust, until…

OK. How will I finish this article? A boring “Don’t take things too seriously” quote? I don’t think so. No, let’s BE serious. One day, we will maybe HAVE to be seriously serious.

No : let’s invent a meta-story full of paradoxes and lessons. Oui ?

An author lives with wife and kids in a wealthy neighborhood. He writes a novel about a family trying to survive after a nuclear war (no electricity, fires, looters, violent riots, nuclear winter coming).
Our guy has fun and makes progress in his writing, but a REAL terrible earthquake happens, destroying 80% of his city. Chaos ensues (no electricity, fires, looters, no more police or hospitals, etc). Confrontation between his ideas for the book and… reality.

You have a week.

Have a great day!

PS : In my dream, should I have had taken my family out of my house, or was it a good idea to hide inside?

Teeth & Tidal Waves : Dangerous Dreams

Jünger wrote somewhere that some dreams are so intense that they seem to warn you : “Pay attention, please”.

Two dreams are dangerous : when you loose your teeth, and tsunamis. Death and danger.

But when you dream about someone’s death, everybody seems to agree it’s not about death but about CHANGE (you will change, you have to change, you need to change, whatever).

If you dream this person died, some people say your relationship with this person has to change, but I disagree. I think that our brain works about us only, therefore that our dreams use the traits this other person personifie to show a need of change for yourself.

Well, we could go on like that for pages. I’d like to add this :

The “Part of Shadow” according to C.G. #Jung : an investigation

As usual, everywhere you will read or hear this advice : “Kill your demons!”. A few days ago a friend of mine sent me the contrary :

Feed Your Demons

Haha, of course I liked it! And I remembered the concept of Shadow, from C.G. Jung. This needed an inquiry.

Evidently I found quotes :

“How can I be substantial if I do not cast a shadow? I must have a dark side also if I am to be whole.” C.G. Jung

“Kill off all my demons and my angels might die too.” Tennessee Williams

“Wherever there is human nature, there is drama.” Agatha Christie

Of course, psychoanalysis doesn’t really “know” what is this strange concept of Shadow. An Archetype? A dark part of the subconscious? Jung says it’s :

“inferior, primitive, inappropriate, unfortunate, but not absolutely bad”.

I explored a little (it is an inquiry, and I am just an ideas forager) and found these :

  • The Shadow is hidden, and resists the analysis.
  • It’s an archetypal force, a character.
  • It bursts at some moments. When you lose your mind, it’s your Shadow taking control. People say, then, someone touched a raw nerve. You seem incoherent.
  • It’s felt like a negative, strong force, it’s frightening for you, it’s frightening for others.
  • You can’t and shouldn’t kill or tame your Shadow. You have to know it, how it’s triggered, and accept it’s in you, powerful and dark.
  • The Shadow speaks to you sometimes, in dreams.
  • The Shadow is what your refuse to see or recognize in you.
  • The Shadow is also made of your inner capabilities you couldn’t develop.
  • So the Shadow is like your dead twin, hidden in you, weakened or weird.
  • If you are shy, your Shadow is probably a strong personality. If you’re an adventurer, your Shadow is maybe a coward in slippers.
  • What we hate or fear in other people is because it’s similar with our own Shadow.
  • Yes, Darth Vader is absolutely like an incarnation of the Shadow (masked, dark, family).
  • Jekyll & Hyde, Beauty & Beast are stories about a Shadow made alive.
  • The Shadow is a Force, it’s primitive and childish, it can help you, it can be the source of your development.
  • Some weakened aspect of the Shadow are forgotten or shy qualities. You just were not allowed or have the force to grow them.
  • Apparition of the Shadow is often triggered by something external. A situation, or someone.
  • It’s so strong that you look that this guy riding the back of a Tiger. It’s dangerous, but full of power.
  • In a crowd, the Shadows of all the people can be mobilized…
  • The Shadow is maybe linked to the Collective Unconscious.
  • Your Shadow can not be tamed. Be you can get to know her/him. And be friends, eventually.

There are books about this, of course. It’s a fantastic concept who can be :

  1. a tool (how will you use and know your Shadow?)
  2. a lever (which is the door to this creature)
  3. a dial (watch you when you act incoherent, in burst, in anger – and watch the people around you, your lover and others).

Thanks for reading !

#Signs & #Coincidences? Are you serious? #Jung

Bonjour !

As a bookseller I often have to deal with people who struggle with sudden elements, in their life, which force them to think “out of the box”, out of their usual normal mind frontiers…

You are sometimes pushed out of schedules and happy life by really strange sh*t. It can be an accident, a dream, a coincidence.

These kind of events have an effect. It’s like a hand pushing on your chest, saying : “Stop! Look! Think!”.

“Are you serious? Do you think I live in a movie?”. Of course not… We are serious people, aren’t we?

Carl Gustav Jung told the story of two women having tea, talking about a third friend they did not see since ten years. At this moment, the phone rings : it’s her (evidently). Jung says he absolutely doesn’t care about “how it works” : he is interested by the SURPRISE of the ladies. They are floored in a awe. This is interesting.

If you dream of an earthquake which happens for real two days after. If a knife-rest stands up after it fell on the ground and you got a phonecall two seconds later saying your son just broke his leg. If you both friends text each other the exact same combination of emojis at the same second. Your mouth stays open for a moment (close it or you could swallow a fly). You smile, too. Something’s happening, right?

Searching the cause, from Norwegian angels taking care of you to Magic Intention of the Universe, from quantum physics to local Gods, is a lack of time. Useless. It happened, what will you make of it? THAT is important.

I stay and stand with Jung. Anything that looks like a sign, a coincidence, anything that stops my brain like that, makes me decide that I have to think, reconsider, change, watch, examine.

It’s like I Ching : there’s probably no magic here. It’s your choice to make the most of it. Stop, think : “What does that mean?”. We often are like hamsters in a wheel, we roll and roll. These coincidences are opportunities to jump out of the wheel. Stop. Think.

If a “sign” helps you, just say thanks. To… I dunno! And turn the steering wheel.

Bonne journée !

Thanks for reading!
