Safer paths?

There’s been an interesting post on the marvelous Facebook of Humans of New York (which you should follow, it’s… humanist).

One guy was in NYC, in his mid-30, struggling to be an actor with no or little success, living paycheck to paycheck. The people’s answers under the post were interesting, picking paths for him (from “go on you’ll make it” to “wisdom says you should let go now”).

I chose an answer from a reasonable person, who chose a family life. Drawing a three branched tree :

  1. People with a more safe and secure life, as a choice, staying anonymous.
  2. People with dreams and passion, wishing for success (in entertainment).
  3. People “mourning unfulfilled dreams” within an ordinary life : they were too afraid to try and dare.

With a conclusion : “Not all dreams work out” and people fall down. But also the maybeness of dreams become true – with the eternal behind-law which says approximatively “When the Gods want to punish you they fulfill your dreams”.

Of course, the actor was necklacing castings, with very little success. It looked like  lottery and gamble…

It becomes a game : What’s worse, to have an ordinary life complaining you should have been an artist, or to struggle for decades until nothing happens? What if you succeed, and it’s boring? What if my book is at least edited and no one buys it? Are there stages in these paths? What if you succeed and then fall into oblivion? What if you decide to move and act at mid-life? Or the contrary, disappear after success?

Oh oh, my three-branched tree became a tree!

Ideas on Seeds

A seed waits – or awaits

Beyond the seed, what awaits?

The one who plants a seed is not necessarily the one who watches it grow

A seed is a proposition

A seed has power

The power of possible

A seed waits, but has no will

An interesting state

Being there

Waiting for the proper moment

Ready but not waiting

A seed has to meet a soil

A seed establishes contact with the soil

A seed is hidden, it’s ready to unfold

A seed has a start moment

Inside the seed is not a tree, but the idea of it

Or plans & maps?

when you plant too many in one area : struggle fights death

A seed needs space, tending, help, water, care, focus

But maybe not that much

Water & light

There’s a push, inside a seed

If you find a seed you don’t know what’s inside

Mutation – from a seed to a tree, a flower

How things build themselves : the river metaphor

Gilbert Durand is known his work on the imaginary, and symbolic anthropology.

He sees things evolving like rivers.

Of course, the game is to use this on whatever you want, like fashions, history, art, events, philosophy or literature.

Here are the words he uses :

  1. Streaming : currents and fountains, sometimes from distant pasts, resurgences, or born from events.
  2. Watersheds : some streams gather, creating frontiers with other streams, some fights can burst.
  3. Confluences : a current is reinforced, valued by other streams, which are like helping figures.
  4. Names : the river is named, typified, characters (real or imaginary) are linked to it.
  5. Banks layout : consolidation (reality, style) happens, come the theoriticians and “second”  founders, thinkers – sometimes with rises and floods : exaggerations.
  6. Exhaustion & deltas : meandering causes derivations, divisions, and other rivers cant melt.

Where will you use this, and how, and what can it bring to your thinking activity?

An Ardent Patience & Depuzzlement Processes : seeds in Chronicle 29

People underestimate kids, right?

zoid.gif

  1. Someone hears a sound, and doesn’t understand what it is about
  2. Then hears it’s a voice – of unknown words
  3. Then hears it’s his language, but doesn’t understand the phrases
  4. Then gets the phrases, but doesn’t get what one is talking about
  5. Then understands and stands up

It’s time to repost this : Some French feel-good movies to choose from

Exploring mood? Google “Best Albums 2017”. I’m on it! What are yours?

zoid.gif

In a conversation about things and events and ideas, do you focus on the sense and the logic, or on what you feel, the specifics? That’s a real question…

Oh, both, dear : naturally. How to weave/dance? Finding invariances in the particulars…

Serenity as a sign of love.

A good friend, or your child, has a problem, an hesitation. Needs you. You then develop a big bubble of attention, a gigantic ear. You focus & try to ask questions – useless or trappy or good questions. The purpose is to help him/her to give birth to a solution – to help the depuzzlement process…

À l’aurore, armés d’une ardente patience, nous entrerons aux splendides Villes.

In the dawn, armed with a burning patience, we shall enter the splendid Cities.

Here’s a secret (or a question) :

People have different burdens, different ways to be bereaved (“deprived of loved ones”).

I remember telling a friend, in a letter, more than twenty years ago, about my difficulties with my lover, who had lost her mother at the age of 11.

“Go to the cemetery, with her”, she answered. Ohhh…

There are many types of bereavement : death, cutting bonds because of serious misconduct, friendship loss, remoteness… It creates, I’m sure, a black veil, with a crow under. Who can pinch. It’s maybe our responsibility to come close to the veil and whisper : “Let’s go to the cemetery”.

Talking about a dark past, wrong choices from people you loved, or the loss of a mother. Holding up (a little) the veil. See if there’s a sail under, ready to inflate and breathe. Or not.

Who will be the one who says : “Let’s talk about the past”? What can it bring? What if the answer is “No, never”?

zoid.gif

Forgetting the past to move forward is like to erase maps and the knowledge on the maps.

zoid.gif

My friend was a teacher for kids “with big problems”. She wrote me a long letter about these children who became worried – thus violent – when they began to understand that a special freedom comes from… learning. Then, she said, they go on, and calm down.

zoid.gif

Interesting situation, when you want the balance to change but the other one doesn’t want the balance to change.

Funnier : you want to change something, but the other one wants to change another thing. Here you are both of you pushing on different doors…

Seed : To Change is To Add, right ?

I like the idea of “seeds for the brain”, for the mind. You just find a good way to say something, or a surprising idea, and you put it into a friend’s mind. This is food for thinkers. I’ll write an article about this very soon. Tonight, the seed is :

To change, it’s to add something. It’s not to chop, or to bend (or twist, who can help me on that ? I’m French, help !). It’s to ADD.

I would love to link this seed to this article today : Why I talk to my exes.

This is what Jeanne Moreau was thinking about her ex-lovers (I translated it, so sorry for the mistakes) :

– You said one day that you would like to have a house with a room for each man you loved. Would it be a big house ?
– A normal house… In fact, it was mainly an image to express my desire of not losing. I hear some people, they say : “Here it is, I rebuilt my life”. I don’t know how one can rebuilt one life, we just go on. Personaly, I don’t like losing sight of someone, beyond desire, beyond sensual passion. The idea of this house, it’s to gather a treasure with all this love, which continues to live in our memories.
(Jeanne Moreau)

It’s a good seed. To change, it’s to add something. Like layers, like rooms in a house. It’s a way to grow up. We grow up, like trees ! New branches. New ways of making love. New ways of thinking. New ways of aggregating thoughts…

Is it true ? If it’s not, why ?
