Middle of life & Refusal of continuous evolving plan

“In the middle of the journey of our life”, writes Dante in the beginning of his Inferno.

Roland Barthes uses this to think about the feeling of being in the middle of our life.

After an event which determines the start of the second part of life, some rest then they go on, repeating what they did before, maybe slowly withdrawing from action. Acedia (Wiki : “a state of listlessness or torpor, of not caring or not being concerned with one’s position or condition in the world”) is not necessarily a bad thing.

Let me fall into a quiet clean living space

Others will feel the coming of the end of life – or at least, that they begin the second part – and choose, like after a tremor, to change something.

Life of course, but also elements of it, things like beliefs, methods, ways of writing are subject to mutations.

In fact, one can feel this need anytime, not “in the middle of life” (which becomes, then, one trigger).

Who never felt “la lassitude de n’être que soi”? The weariness of being only oneself…

Something suddenly has to be done (and we should probably also list the triggers). What’s and how is it discontinuous?

  • sinuous – bends
  • defectoring – big changes
  • lives using turnarounds – doing the contrary for certains things
  • metamorphosis – another skin, way of seeing things
  • displacements – moving places, moving where we act
  • growing by stages – learning, opening
  • risks – uncertainties, voluntary skidsideslips, waverings
  • seeking freedoms – explorations
  • re-inventions – mutations

and having said that, at the same time, staying truthful & faithful (to ourselves).

  2. Invent solutions

Don’t ask me who I am and don’t ask me to stay the same.

See also (Google it) “Becoming Deleuze”. For example :

“Becoming-” is a process of change, flight, or movement within an assemblage. Rather than conceive of the pieces of an assemblage as an organic whole, within which the specific elements are held in place by the organization of a unity, the process of “becoming-” serves to account for relationships between the “discrete” elements of the assemblage. In “becoming-” one piece of the assemblage is drawn into the territory of another piece, changing its value as an element and bringing about a new unity.

Mutation Process can’t be stopped

There are a few ways of changing. The development of a child is a good example.

As an adult, getting some maturity is a process. We change, we grow up. Cool!

There are other processes, though…

You can go to another territory. Imagine you change country : emigration. The change comes from outside, then… you change!

You can imitate a life, a person. Imitate something. You do “as if”. You’ll probably learn from that.

Identification is another thing. More linked to feelings. It’s deeper…

And this : mutation. Changes include another way of living. You are suddenly haunted by something, a way of living, a way of feeling. You’re enveloped. You mutate…

I’m sure you can’t stop this one. It’s new. You have new wings. Your eyes have changed. You’re not the same anymore, forever. You mutated. You’re another person, and you know more. You can’t, you won’t go back. Now you’re different.

If you move, if you imitate, you can go back to yourself. But the mutation process can’t be reversed.

It means many things : What will you do? What will happen? Tell me : what does it mean? How will this evolve? Can you do something? What example do you have? What did you learn?

Do you realize mutation is not only “growing”? It’s changing… in the deep.

How was it for you? What now?

Old Letters Old Diaries

You can choose to move forward all the time – you go girl ! – but you can sometimes slow down a bit and add something to your moveforwardice : read your old pages, some letters from the past, or your diary; watch your steps in the sand, watch your soil.

I wrote my maison-page for twelve years (it’s in French sorryyy) and from time to time, once a month maybe, I read some parts of it, randomly. Some days, I find and read all the emails I wrote “the same day but one year before”.

It’s amazing how useful it can be, at times, to read what your wrote in the past. It helps you a lot, and in many ways. The more you know your path, your soil, your roots… the more what ?

You realise things : you have a tendency to make the same mistakes, you act along patterns. Your realise that your thoughts are like seeds, or little machines : they grow, mutate, change colors. you evolved. You are not the same person anymore… but you are, though.

It’s just as simple as a chest, a safe. You can find, in a awe, some great ideas your learned in the past and forgot in the wind of the years. De bonnes idées oubliées dans le passé…

Tool : Write, and keep what you write. Letters, articles, emails, blogs and diaries. When in need, plunge down back into this shit.  You’ll be disturbed (you need to be). You’ll even discover things (like for the first time but not really, which is as good as a perfect Koan). You’ll smell your good soil and find probably some good old seeds – use them today.

If you don’t, don’t be surprised you sometimes look like a pale tree growing on some bland savourless nutritive liquid in the white tent of a greenhouse.

(oh snap I’m losing my english)
